Port Noarlunga Reconstruction

Port Noarlunga has been the centre of much activity this year. There has been redevelopment of the roadways, footpaths and general landscaping in and around the township. The Commercial Road bridge roadway has been widened by moving the footpath to the outside of the bridge. There has also been a comprehensive refurbishment of the jetty.

The pictures above show the transportation of new steel piles along the jetty by bobcat. These were then lifted into position by the tender boat and cut to length. The decking was replaced with new sleepers and the old wooden rail replaced with steel.

The pictures below show the new roundabouts installed adjacent to the arts center and the road bridge.

The roadwork is finished and the repaving and finishing off is continuing at a steady pace. The next newsletter will contain the pictures of the finished product.

Push for 40kmh zone

A campaign by residents on the Esplanade between Christies Beach and Port Noarlunga for a 40 km/h speed zone received publicity on local television news and in the Advertiser. The residents erected in their own premises mock ups of 40 km/h road signs in an effort to draw attention to their cause. The publicity was a result of the police saying that the signs were illegal. Some signs were removed and others stayed. The issue is in the editors opinion a valid one. There are compelling reasons mainly the safety of pedestrians for reducing the speed limit and it is to be hoped that when the relevant authorities have completed their investigations the limit will be implemented and enforced.

Esplanade collapsing!

Onkaparinga Council in response to concerns that the cliff is subsiding has introduced a 3 tonne load limit between Benny and Anderson avenues.
