The Workshop
Industrial
Arts studies at Newcastle began Neil's association with woodworking. After
spending 20 years as an Industrial arts teacher he has been a full time
woodworker for six years, and part time for 14 years before that. Neil
now employs two workers, one who he trained as an apprentice cabinet maker
who has this year finished his training and one new part time trainee.
With their help Neil makes custom made furniture for private clients and
also galleries. He also makes turned and carved pieces mainly for galleries
at his bushland studio at Lower Bucca near Coffs Harbour on the mid north
coast of NSW, Australia.
Neil's wife Liz is also a partner in the business, decorating many of
the turned gallery pieces, which are sent to galleries around Australia
and overseas. Many of their combined pieces have been purchased by wood
turning collectors in USA.
Liz trained as Textile
and Design teacher and taught for many years before retiring to pursue
her craft full-time and raise a family. After spending many years working
in the field of textile Arts, she now divides her time working with textiles
and painting and decorating the woodwork, in particular the platters.
