The culmination of Stewart's 28 year Military career was the demanding appointment as Commanding Officer 21st Supply Battalion, responsible for the management of Army warehousing and distribution operations in the State of New South Wales supporting military units within the State and overseas deployments.  During this period a new distribution centre was commissioned within the complex: the nucleus for a future Defence national distribution centre.  Prior to this appointment Stewart was the Deputy Director of Supply, Army in the rank of Colonel.

On leaving the Army in 1989, Stewart took up a marketing appointment with the Royal Blind Society for eighteen months, before joining Myer Grace Bros as the NSW State Distribution Manager.  During this appointment Stewart was responsible for implementing a re-organization of the Grace Bros Distribution Centre internal operations and the Distribution Services throughout the State of New South Wales with associated transport route planning and delivery scheduling.

Subsequently, Stewart had a national role with Australia's largest Retail Department Store Group, Myer Grace Bros, as Operations Planning Manager Logistics with particular responsibilities in the States of Queensland and New South Wales.  During this period he was the internal 'consultant' Logistician on the project teams for the redesign and rebuilding of a number of Myer Grace Bros Department Stores including the new seven level Sydney City Store.
