Our awards

When mum comes out with the camera, this puppy at heart just has to show off – he can’t help himself. I guess it’s no wonder that our boy is the deserving and proud recipient of a One Paw Award for Best Photo. |

I used to be a racer and my name was Elder’s Boy,
But now I am retired and oh is that a joy.
Now there’s no more kennels and I have a comfy bed
And the only kind of racing is to play with kids instead.
I get all different kinds of treats from liver bits to toast
But there is something special, one thing I love the most.
I now have a family to call my very own
And it brings me so much happiness for I am not alone.
There are hugs there when I want them and kisses by the score
And I don’t have to win a race to get them any more.
They seem to flow quite freely especially from my mum
And I have learnt I get them more if I look a little glum.
So now I’m just called Smokey and other precious names
And I don’t have to win a race cause they love me just the same.
There is one thing I must admit with just a little dread
If I look at mum with puppy eye’s my breakfast’s served in bed
But I don’t think it bothers her when she cuts my toast in squares
She does it for the other kids and so it seems quite fair.
Then late at night when all is quiet and it’s finally time for bed
My teeth are checked my ears are clean and a last pat on the head.
I nod off into dream land and dream about the race
But that is not the reason for the smile upon my face.
