Thanks for a lovely and informative website. My husband and I are planning on getting a couple of dogs at the end of the year ( have to finish the renovations first) and I think one of the dogs will be an adopted greyhound. It will be a little difficult as we have two cats so we will have to find one that is cat friendly. Now I just have to be patient – very hard….

Good luck with beautiful Smokey.

Regards Jane

Congratulations on Smokey he is beautiful. We have just adopted a bitch called Misty that Fran found for us, and she will be flying through to South Africa very shortly to join us. We also have a whippet an Italian greyhound and another male greyhound and all that I can tell you is that we will never get anything else but greyhounds again.

They are our family. Good luck with your boy.

Regards George and Juan.

I visit your site every so often and it really impresses me. Your stories(even though they are happy) ALWAYS bring a lump to my throat. My grey Winnie is also settling in well. I love her to little bits…the joy she brings me is immeasurable!

Keep up the good work.

I am very excited that Smokey has his own web site. I am just going to have to get Bella and Sam a website. Reading this makes all the foster work I do even more worthwhile because I know that our beautiful greys will find wonderful homes like yours. I know what you mean about changing the routine thing…If Sam’s bowl even so much as moves an inch he gets confused.

Thanks for puttting the link to your site on my guestpage. I have really enjoyed visiting and will return again soon to see how Smokey and any new additions are getting on. We only managed to last 6 months with only one Greyhound and have now had Pippa for just over a week.

They really are perfect pets.

Just visited your site and can’t tell you how much I enjoyed it. Also have a retired grey named Grey(yes that’s her name) and can relate to all the things you say and the love you have for Smokey. Grey has been with us for about 4 years and settled in after about a week. I think her favourite thing is having a whole back yard to wander at will and not being in a kennel. Once again a great site and good luck. Ray…

I’d like to say how much I enjoyed your lovely site. I hope you will get many more years of pleasure from your dog. I am amazed to hear of a grey who thrives on cheese on toast.

Mine get loose motions if I only give them a nibble now and then! One thing I did worry about was the eating of chicken legs and wings. I had been told, when I had cats, that chicken bones split easily when eaten by animals, and the sharp edges can penetrate the intestines, causing dreadful pain. When I began with greys I was told to give only marrow bones. I assumed that chicken bones could be dangerous for greys as well. Could you check it out with your vet? I’d hate to think of that beautiful dog suffering from something you give to it out of love. All the best Gay.

My Comment

Thanks Gay, sorry to hear your grey’s can’t stomach cheese to well. When I adopted Smokey from GAP they said that raw bones and raw chicken were fine but never cooked (this is when they splinter) The vet also said the same but I really appreciate your concern.

You have a lovely site! I got my first grey(but hopefully not my last) grey on Nov. 7th 2002. Joyner (also his racing name) has been a delite. He too has adjusted well..to 6 cats and 3 large dogs! He has a bit of separation anxiety though. He’s a Mama’s boy and cry’s when I’m not home. Since I work full time, he stays in his crate when I’m gone. He has occasional accident’s so we leave him crated in my absence. He’s out all the other time and when I’m out briefly. I think he fools aroundand does not take care of “ business” in the mornings! He thinks I should be a Home Mom! I love him SO much. The best to you and your greyt family.

Hi Shirley, Glad to see Smokey is getting world acclaim. I have put his picture on our review of the week and also a link to your website. The greyhound community the world over are a very friendly bunch with everyone interested in each others dogs. It is nice when people get together like this as they are also support for each other when there is a problem relevant to greyhounds.

He is such a beautiful dog you should be very proud of him. The kennels are very busy at the moment we average about 20 rehomings a month.

Hi, I was just on Smokey’s page and saw that you wanted info on his litter mates. I know of a site which may help- it is www.greyhound-data.com I found my grey’s info on there and couldn’t believe it! It gives up to about 5 generations back and you can insert a picture. My husband Danny & I adopted Joe through GAP Queensland and we are mates with Mel and Winnie. If you want to see a pic of Joe, his racing name was “ Duckmaloi “. Terrible isn’t it. Smokey looks like such a sweet dog. We have had Joe since 1/3/03 and it’s his 4th birthday on Sun. 6/7 so I will make him a cake. He is spoiled rotten!
