MAPS

This page provides information on maps which would be of use when exploring the Central Coast region. These range from a general regional map, which can be downloaded free of charge, through to specific topographic maps for more serious bushwalkers.

Regional map

A quite detailed regional map can be downloaded for free at:

http://www.maps.com.au/PDFs/Maps/cent_cst/CCst_Region.pdf

NOTE: To view PDF files you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader. If not already installed on your computer it can be downloaded for free at:

Street directory

For more detail than the regional map, a UBD Central Coast Street Directory is a good investment and will be sufficient for the purposes of most tourists. These also accurately show the major walking tracks in National Parks. They can be purchased from any local book store and cost around $15.

NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service maps

If you are intending to do some walking in National Parks the National Parks and Wildlife Service has Information Guides for each park, which include maps of the main walking trails as well as information on the time needed to complete the walk and a 'degree of difficulty' rating, i.e. easy, medium, hard. These are free and can be obtained from the following National Parks and Wildlife Service offices:

Gosford Office - Suites 36-38, 207 Albany Street North, Gosford, Phone (02) 43204200

Lakes Area Office - Elizabeth Bay Drive, Lake Munmorah, Phone (02) 43580400

Topographic maps

1:25,000 topographic maps are really only necessary if you are intending to do some really serious bushwalking. The National Parks and Wildlife Service guides will be sufficient for most people undertaking short walks. However, topographic maps do have the advantage of showing the height contours, so you can get a better idea of the ups and downs of a walk than you will from the National Parks and Wildlife Service guides. You won't find these in local bookshops and will need to go to a camping supplies retailer such as Boots Great Outdoors (The Entrance Road, Erina) or Kangaroo Tent City (in the Homemakers Supa Centre, Bryant Drive, Tuggerah). They cost around $8 each.
