In 1975 the freighter Lake Illawarra
struck the Tasman Bridge.
The disaster brought not only death and
destruction to the ship, but cut a city in half for almost
three years.
This book charts not only the story of the
tragedy, but also the struggle of the Tasmanians who had to
cope with the aftermath. As well, it tells the tale of the
colourful ferries which grew from the early days to become a
fleet of vessels with mighty characters - and then vanished
almost as quickly.
By Derwent Divided will appeal not only to
Tasmanians who remember the story, but those with an eye for
a different historical tale, and of course to lovers of
ships.
