Our Tang Soo Do Gup system in its progress from white to black represents the cycle of the seasons. Each colour stands for a specific stage of achievement. In thway we realise an essential concept of oriental philoposphy, i.e., that which is born must grow, reach maturity, die, and leave behind the seeds of a new birth.
| WHITE | Beginner's belt colour. White represents a primitive sign of achievement. Thus, the seed as it lies dormant beneath the snows of winter. |
| YELLOW | The yellow sun awakens the knowledge promoting the growth of the seed. |
| ORANGE | Orange represents new growth which appears in spring. Our Tang Soo knowldge begins to reveal itself. |
| GREEN | Green represents the speedy developent of youth as summer arives. |
| BROWN | Brown represents power, stability, agility, weight and wisdom. This stabilising stage, both physically and mentlly, analogous to the plants which curtail their growth and prepare to flower in the late summer. |
| RED | Red represents blood, life, energy, attention and control, The students power and techniques begin to bloom and ripen. |
| DARK BLUE | Dark blue represents maurity, repect, and honour. Our dark blue belt is given to the Cho Dan Bo (black belt candidate). He or she must now prepare mind and body for the final step need to attain Balck Belt |
| BLACK | Black represents mastery, calmness, dignity, and sincerity. Black belt is the final stage of one life cycle and the beginning of the next. Thus we see that it is not the end one stage but, more importantly, the beginning of a path which leads up through the ranks of the higher Blacks Belts of true mastery. |
