1. 25 + 5 YEARS At The DON RIVER RAILWAY (2001)

The Coast’s Premier Tourist Attraction has been in operation for more than 30 years after opening to the public in November 1976. This DVD was originally produced for the 25th and has now been updated with scenes from the 30th anniversary. The DVD takes us back to the early days and follows the railway and its volunteers as they developed it into the largest collection of operating railway equipment in Tasmania. Main line running with the railway's M class engines is featured, both on their own, together and paired with the CCS engines and even a short sequence of the four engine run over the Don Hill during the EBR centenary. 25 + 5 Years at the DON RIVER RAILWAY includes: Film of early days, moving & building the station, signalbox, workshops & turntable; member’s interviews, stories from Ian Hall, MA2 test run, coverage of steam and diesel main line running, action at the 30th and a few scenes from the Thomas days held in 2007. 2. ON TRACK The DON RIVER RAILWAY (2004)

The Van Diemen Light Railway Society Inc was formed in the early 1970s. After basing themselves at Don, near Devonport, the group relaid a section of railway between Don Township and Coles Beach, opening to the public as the Don River Railway in November 1976. Following the restoration of steam locomotive MA2 the group began excursion tours on the main lines of Tasmania in 1986. From this start the railway has now built up considerable expertise, running tours with a wide variety of motive power over every available line and catering for all tastes. This DVD shows some early days at Don, and then covers over 40 rail trips in various places around the state. Footage comes mainly from the video archives of Tas Steam Alive, sourced from over one hundred VHS, S-VHS, Hi-8 and Digital tapes and includes many scenes not previously used, and some scenes from tapes long out of production. All footage has been digitized and computer edited. Running time 115 minutes. Available as DVD 4:3 Pal format.

10. BURNIE TO PRIMROSE (2005)

A 108.5 km cab ride on the Melba Line. This DVD was filmed in early 2003, from the cab of Burnie Rail railcar DP14. All of the track between Burnie and Primrose is included, and in light of the fact that passenger train operation over this line has now been banned it gives those that have not been able to travel to Primrose a chance to see the track and the ever changing scenery. The Melba line, as it is now known, was formerly the Emu Bay Railway and the company had just celebrated its centenary when it was purchased by the operator of the rest of the Tasmanian system, Australian Transport Network, in 1998. That company was taken over by Pacific National in 2004. Running Time 110 minutes. Some technical details re this DVD: To fit the 108.5 km onto the DVD, the video is run at twice normal speed, turning the 3 hr 40 min journey into just 1hr 50 mins. The sound is at normal speed to avoid distort ion, and generally the sound only synchronizes properly at level crossings and points of interest, nonetheless it is fairly close given the speed difference. There are chapters for each 5 km marker, and for most major locations including Ridgley, Hampshire, Moory Junction, Hatfield, Boco, Chester and Pieman bridges. There is no narration but many sites are identified with captions. As this trip was a passenger carrying excursion, we were not able to stop every hour to change tapes, therefore some sections were filmed on the return journey and have been spliced into the program, you may or may not notice these joins. The DVD will auto start after 20 seconds on the main menu. Main Photo: Pieman River bridge. All photos digitised from the DVD. Available as DVD 4:3 Pal format.

11. FROM AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL TO PACIFIC NATIONAL

VOLUME 1. THE WILTSHIRE LINE (2006)

Greg Moyle & I have been videoing trains in Tasmania since 1986, and produced our first VHS video in 1989. Much of the early days was devoted to recording the return of steam, but there was usually something being taken of the freight scene. After producing videos that recorded all the great steam trips around Tasmania, we started in 2004 to release the Grant Hyland series focusing on diesel operations. Inspired by the success of that set it was time to go through our tapes and release some of the hours of video that we have taken. Here is the first DVD, which features the “Wiltshire Line” the 8okm section from Burnie to Wiltshire Junction. Vol. 2 will feature the EBR/Melba line, therefore the first two volumes will not be exactly true to the series title “From Australian National to Pacific National”. The “Wiltshire Line” runs past our houses at Wynyard and no special attention was paid to it until almost too late, hence the extended coverage of the last trains! This series is not a definitive history but about Tasmanian Railways as we saw and enjoyed them.

B.F. “Danny” Neilson.

Highlights of this DVD include: X class to Stanley (1986), Last steam (1989), ZCs on log train Montumana - Wynyard (1990), ZB12 cab ride and other problems (1992), Z4 & ZA4 laying ballast, then struggling with hand sanding on the Montumana bank (1994), New owners re-open line (1999), GMs head west, (2000), A “push/pull” train near Somerset (2000) and a few other unusual runs, then exclusive video of both the second last train with its ZB&ZC EE power, and the final train on March 27 2003, where DQ GMs run right through to Wiltshire for the first and probably last time. No narration, on screen captions, 24 chapters, 90 mins. Note that distances are generally given to nearest kilometre.

12. The award winning* "THE WESTERN STEAM SPECIALS" (1989) (Remastered 2007)

On October 21st & 22nd, 1989 two special double headed steam hauled trains were run from the city of Burnie, on the North West coast of Tasmania. Using engines and rolling stock from the Don River Railway, Devonport the train attracted big crowds en route. The DVD begins with steam locos MA2 and CCS 25, carriages AAL11, BBL12, SS7, SSD2, AAR2, BRA4 and stores van DBI2 being hauled from Devonport to Burnie on Friday, 20th October by Tasrail diesel-electric loco Y2. Then we follow the train from Burnie to Rosebery and back on Saturday 21st. The next day we cover the journey from Burnie to Wiltshire and return, and in the evening watch the engines and rolling stock leaving Bumie for their base at Devonport, again being hauled by Y2. This DVD was filmed, edited and produced by and for rail enthusiasts and features spectacular views of the train both from track side and on board. This remastered version of The Western Steam Specials has been produced using the original VHS/SVHS tapes. Some scenes have been changed slightly and a few minutes of new video added, but the DVD stays with the original format and narration. Some new captions have been added, many with kilometre distances, and some shaky film has been computer enhanced. 16 chapters.

Greg Moyle & I have been videoing trains in Tasmania since 1986, and produced our first VHS video in 1989. Much of the early days was devoted to recording the return of steam, but there was always something being taken of the freight scene. After producing videos that recorded all the great steam trips around Tasmania, we started in 2004 to release the excellent Grant Hyland series focusing on diesel operations. Inspired by the success of that it was time to go through our tapes and release some of the hours of video we have taken. Here now is the second DVD, which features the EBR/Melba line, and, like the first volume “The Wiltshire Line” does not exactly fit the series title “From Australian National to Pacific National”. VOLUME 3. AROUND TASMANIA 1986 - 2001 (2008)

Greg Moyle & I have been videoing trains in Tasmania since 1986. Much of the early days was devoted to recording steam excursions, but we did usually cover some of the freight scene. After producing videos of all the great steam trips around Tasmania, in 2004 we released the first of the Grant Hyland series focusing on diesel operations. Inspired by that success it was time to go through our tapes and edit the hours of video we have taken. Vols 1 & 2 covered the Wiltshire and Melba lines, this 3rd DVD features trains around some of the rest of Tasmania from 1986 to 2001. Initially we thought this vol. 3 would be the last but there is much video to come, coupled with the fact that the ownership of the Tas. system is about to change again. Note that this series is not intended to be a definitive history but depicts Tasmanian Railways as we saw and enjoyed videoing them.

15. ALL STEAM LAST STEAM (2008)

All Steam Last Steam covers part of two Don River Railway excursions that were run in 2004 and 2005. As passenger trains are now banned on the Melba line and may not be seen for some time on other lines in Tasmania, we felt it was time to share this footage that shows MA2 & M4 in great scenes with awesome sound, especially on the 2004 final trip on the Melba line. In one sequence you will see both engines slipping and then regaining traction, almost stalling on the steepest section, and MA2 blowing some great smoke rings!
