The growth and development of Sun Conure chicks

These chicks hatched in August. The first image shows the first 2 chicks and the third breaking through the egg.
Note the full crops in the second image - the photo was taken at 8am. The crops remain topped up throughout the day.


The third image was taken just prior to pulling the chicks for handraising.


The last 2 images show the development of pin feathers and coloured feathers breaking through.
The parent Suns are excellent breeders and raisers. This is their 5th clutch of chicks so far this year. They usually lay 3-4 eggs. The fertility rate is good. When 3 eggs are layed, fertility is always 100%. When 4 eggs are layed, sometimes the first egg layed fails to thrive in the egg.
