He had been in a morphine induced coma for over a week. The palliative care nurses expected him to pass on five days ago. I think his Never Give Up spirit kept him going well past what his body could cope with. </B></div> <div> <B>We are having a private cremation later this week.   Next Monday, 6 March at 11 am there will be a celebration of his life ceremony at William House, Lennox St, Maryborough, followed by a light lunch. In the USA ambulances filled with injured from a car smash drive around big cities trying to find a hospital that will accept the victims. Nobody asks the injured "Where does it hurt?" The first question is, "Have you got medical insurance?" If the answer is "NO" then their answer is, "We have no vacant beds!"</B></div> <div> <B>WHY HAVE PUBLIC HOSPITALS?...</B></div> <div> <B>There will always be people who cannot pay huge medical bills. There is not enough money in the world to provide everyone with top-of-the-line medical care. The Age Pension (before we became Self Funded Retirees) gave us some income.</B></div> <div> <B>We all paid for the Age Pension with our contributions to the compulsory Social Security Superannuation Scheme. Under the ALP we VOTED that into law by a constitutional REFERENDUM in 1947. The Liberals took the money from the Trust Account and put it into Consolidated Revenue. To pillage a Trust Account is a Criminal Offence. Few pensioners or self funded retirees can afford $1,200 a year health insurance.</B></div> <div> <B>Public hospitals provide   who closely supervised the up-and-</B></div> <div> <B>the continuous flow of trained nurses and doctors that every civilised country needs. DOCTOR TRAINING</B></div> <div> <B>Nobody wants to be a doctor's FIRST PATIENT but - they have to start somewhere. Public hospitals in the past had top-line senior doctors</B></div> <div> <B>coming new doctors.</B></div> <div> <B>ACCIDENT AND EMERGENCY</B></div> <div> <B>This is the ideal proving ground for young doctors. When the patient is unconscious or bleeding profusely he/she is not fussy - even an inexperienced doctor knows what to do. He just needs experience.</B></div> <bR> <div> <B>IMMEDIATE ACTION</B></div> <div> <B>We must get our public hospitals out of the hands of bureaucrats and go back to control by community based Hospital Boards.</B></div> <div> <B>The old style Hospital Board consisted of the Medical Registrar (a top surgeon), the Matron (el supremo), a private doctor, a nurse or sister, a domestic manager, a local councillor, a Chamber of Commerce rep, pharmacist, radiologist, a clergyman, and a few concerned citizens. These people had the community interests at heart. They were of the community (unlike the bureaucrat that promoted the Butcher of Bundaberg).</B></div> <div> <B>Under Beattie's "Brisbane Butchers and Bunglers" we have 4,500 seat shiners. He has promised to get rid of 160 odd. That won't solve the problem.</B></div> <div> <B>WE ALL WANT SOME SAY IN HOW OUR COMMUNITY HOSPITALS ARE RUN.</B></div> <div> <B>WHY NOT HAVE ALL PRIVATE HOSPITALS?</B></div> <div> <B>When profit is the only motive the poor get the rough end of the pineapple.</B></div> <div> <B>THE AMERICAN DREAM</B></div> <div> <B>The American Dream is a nightmare. Everyone knows that the big drug companies bribe doctors to promote THEIR products. These same companies are behind the takeover of our private hospitals. They buy-up small hospitals and get a monopoly. Then you are forced to meet their rapacious demands. PATHOLOGY</B></div> <div> <B>This has become the next milk cow for the financiers.</B></div> <div> <B>TAKE OVERS</B></div> <div> <B>The big boys have realised that they can milk the taxpayer twice, once through private health care and again through government "subsidy" to provide "essential" care.</B></div> <div> <B>Every private chemist, radiology centre, funeral parlour and dentist is being pressured to be in a group owned by a multinational. It is the old GET BIG or GET OUT with emphasis on small individuals to GET OUT or GET PUSHED OUT.</B></div> <bR> <div> <B>PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE</B></div> <div> <B>For those who wonder how a doctor can justify $45 for fifteen minutes of his time - there is good reason. I have friend who is doctor and I see him stressed at the outstanding bills and it is not for his Mercedes payments. His surgery costs about $135 per hour to run so, for him to make a living, it must bring in $135 multiplied by the number of surgery hours, PLUS the doctor's income. DOCTOR'S PREMIUMS</B></div> <div> <B>A top surgeon or obstetrician often pays $100,000 plus for one year. Ask yourself, "If we operated for 200 years without Public Liability nonsense, how come we suddenly need it now?" The answer is quite simple the transnational insurance robbers wanted a new source of income. They told the politicians to make their lackey judges hand out huge compensation pay-outs. The judges did as directed.NOW we need public liability insurance. LIMITED RESPONSIBILITY</B></div> <div> <B>We don't take a mechanic's home for a blunder like forgetting to put oil in a new engine. Everyone makes mistakes. Human error should not be used to allow Multinational Pirates to rob doctors with extortionate premiums BECAUSE all of their profits come from the patient's pocket - YOUR POCKET.</B></div> <div> <B>If you don't expose the scam it won't get fixed. Get some papers and leave them in doctors' waiting rooms.</B></div> <bR> <div> <B>BURNING ISSUES</B></div> <div> <B>This 4-page mini-paper is produced so ordinary Australians can have a voice and actually discuss major issues of concern.</B></div> <div> <B>In the past many concerned Australians have been made helpless as the media presented the ALP and the Coalition view but seldom the people's view.</B></div> <div> <B>People have said, "BUT - what can we do?" Any independent, group or minor party, loyal to Australia rather than the "party" can put his/her details on this page. That is where human nature steps in. PARASITES STEP IN</B></div> <div> <B>Someone with inside knowledge buys some flood prone land for next to nothing, bribes to get it rezoned and offers it as a suitable site for the new facility. Others with inside knowledge tender for the old site (at much less than it is worth) and get it because the Minister okays the deal. CENTRALISATION</B></div> <div> <B>With no windfall profit the government is still faced with being MINUS one facility. Equipment is expensive so it is smart to have one big facility with all equipment available. In Queensland, Brisbane is the CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE. This is great until an earthquake decides Brisbane is the epicenter - then people realise why decentralisation has merit. Never put ALL EGGS in ONE BASKET. They strip the kitchens and sell hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment for a few dollars scrap value. That is, they created a crisis for which there was only one solution. The solution was what the robbers wanted in the first place - TOTAL privatisation of our PUBLIC hospitals.</B></div> <div> <B>Now the ALP has graciously allowed private hospitals to staff and run the Caboolture Base Hospital to forestall the closure of ACCIDENT & EMERGENCY. A temporary fix that will last forever.</B></div> <div> <B>IT IS PRIVATISED. Get the picture?</B></div> <bR> <div> <B>MONEY wrecking a structure that is usually better built than most modern buildings. Then they build an ARCHITECTURALLY BEAUTIFUL monstrosity that can hold about half as many patients and four times the required number of bureaucrats. COMMON SENSE SAYS</B></div> <div> <B>Why not save the building. Give it to the community. Offer it to a private medical care. They would repair it, paint it, add decor and provide medical services.</B></div> <div> <B>OTHER      UNCONTROLLED BLUNDERERS</B></div> <div> <B>I watch in amazement as the government rushes in to destroy a huge and almost indestructible building like the Howard Powers Station at great public expense because it had asbestos in it. DISSATISFACTION</B></div> <div> <B>A nurse with 20 years experience is seldom enthusiastic about restarting a career so they leave and get a job in a doctor's surgery or an aged care home. Hospitals are left with inexperienced kids who don't want to do bee pans. The costing for a trip in an ambulance has become bizarre and an excuse for another bureaucratic tax to transfer tax money to the Multinationals who buy up our corporatised, soon-to-be privatised, then foreignised ambulance services.</B></div> <div> <B>DOCTOR SHORTAGE v MISMANAGEMENT</B></div> <div> <B>Nobody in Health Care could claim to be surprised by a shortage of doctors. We know how many we will need - how many in the pipeline - and how long the pipe is. YET we steal good doctors from overseas where good doctors are scarce, and even worse we bring in virtual WITCH DOCTORS who have been trained in hospitals we would rate as little better than a rubbish tip.</B></div> <div> <B>DON'T GO</B></div> <div> <B>We must not go down the American track where privateers and pirates get-rich-quick and fight each other to grab a helpless victim from a crash site. While ambulance officer sit bored in the $250,000 boxes with no patients. TRAINING AMBOS</B></div> <div> <B>There is no good reason that the ambulance officers could not be dressing wounds, suturing, bandaging and splinting -even prescribing minor medications and pain killers. PRECEDENTS</B></div> <div> <B>Ships survive with no doctor and no nurses. The crew are expected to be the ship's medical officer in an emergency. They have a</B></div> <div> <B>good First Aid Kit and a How-to-do-it book. They have a radio and they seek advice because they have no choice. EQUIVALENTS</B></div> <div> <B>A bush town is no different to a ship - it is isolated. A cattle station is no different to a fishing vessel - it is even more isolated. SELL THE AMBULANCE STATIONS</B></div> <div> <B>All ambulances should be based at public or private hospitals, or incorporated into the Fire Station structure for economy of accommodation, communication and administration. ALLOW SELF PRESCRIPTION</B></div> <div> <B>Any drug that is not lethal should be available to the public. In Asia, even in primitive areas, antibiotics etc sell without prescription and the misuse rate for nonprescription medication can't be worse than the Australian prescription-mad medical situation where doctors mistakes kill 18,000 a year.</B></div> <div> <B>OUR YOUTH</B></div> <div> <B>Eager - bright - young minds -seeking challenge - sit idle on-the-dole while the Neros of the Health Industry FIDDLE. Every one of them would be better off working as ward assistants -even cooks assistants at hospitals and old folks homes. The industrious will study if we make training films available. The best can be given correspondence courses. The best of these get a scholarship to university. The less technical will still make great and caring nurses.</B></div> <div> <B>ALTERNATIVES</B></div> <div> <B>Our children - bored - with no hope for the future are committing suicide at a rate 325 a year and for each one who succeeds at least 23 attempt suicide and fail.</B></div> <div> <B>Give them something worthwhile to do. Under Labor the waiting list is a disgrace. The Maryborough Base Hospital was the centre of expertise because it was on the Bruce Highway (Hwy One), Gympie (to the south 85 kms) was close enough to get critical cases to Brisbane.</B></div> <div> <B>The eastern spokes of the wheel were the roads from Hervey Bay (Coastal tourist resort 50 kms) and the road from Bundaberg (coastal port 115 kms). These are no-thru-roads</B></div> <div> <B>so vehicles have to come back to the (North-South) coastal highway. The roads in from the west bring patients from Kingaroy, Gayndah and Biggenden. UNDERHAND DEALING</B></div> <div> <B>Never once has the ALP ever revealed its real intentions. They have never deviated from their plan to shut the biggest best and most recently refurbished hospital in the Wide Bay. Anyone that stupid is no use as a candidate.</B></div> <div> <B>The paper must go out at least six months prior to the election to be of use. </B></div> <div> <B>Candidates can put a paper into every home 45,000 (into a 77,000 voter electorate) for about $9,000. Any candidate who can't put his/her case well enough to get that much in donations, and get polling booth workers, from their own personalised paper was a loser.</B></div> <div> <B>In the case of a state election, as in Marborough Qld (22,000 voters in 12,000 homes) the whole electorate can get a candidate paper for about $2,400. Cost would be 16 cents a paper plus 4 cents junk mail delivery (20 cents) by 12,000 or $2,400.
