There are no topics of greater importance than our economic decline. Let us look at the sad facts of commercial life in Australia, before we collapse.
No Excuse
Politicians say that we haven't got the population to sustain high tech. industry. Lies !
How come the Swiss, Swedes and Israelis, with limited people, mineral resources, energy, oil, area, and not much sea board, can lead the world? How come Australia could sustain many self sufficient industries thirty years ago when we had the highest standard of living in the world, but can't now with a bigger population?? It is policies of the ALP/DEM/LIB/NAT/GREENS that are the real reason for our demise from the highest standard of living to number 30. We are now top of those with third world living standards, and the way we are going it will not take long to sink further.
There might be a way out if we look at the blunders the government has made and devise remedies. But we need to start right now, by ridding ourselves of those whose failed policies have caused the decline !
Job Creation
How do other nations industrialise and create jobs? Can we copy their tactics?
The undeveloped nations offer tax incentives such as NO TAX FOR TEN YEARS. Think what they really lose in tax by not taxing an industry they didn't have. All they lose is the jobless and the welfare costs they generate.
If we impose no tax on Australian owned manufacturers for ten years we will soon have jobs and a trade surplus.
Tourism
How often have you heard our political masters suggest that the workers they are displacing from our manufacturing industries will be able to find work in the growing tourist industry?
"Our future does not lie in tourism !" says Tony Pitt. "I have never seen a country dependent on tourism that was not selling its sons and daughters into prostitution and slave conditions in emporiums and resorts owned by the ultra rich."
The ALP/DEM/LIB/NAT/GREENS sold all the key resorts to the Japanese who fly here in their own planes, stay at their own hotels, travel around in their own buses, shop at their own shops using their own money.
Tourism is the least profitable and most vulnerable enterprise in a shaky world economy.
Mining
One way we can prosper is by meeting the World's need for raw materials.
A mining map of Australia is like a mosaic showing that nearly every square inch of this land is a coal, oil or mineral lease. Hardly one percent of those leases is wholly owned by Australians.
The real money is made in value adding. A ton of steel is worth more as high speed drills, tools, engines, and machinery than it ever was as raw steel, and that is where the jobs our children so desperately need can be created. We used to have manufacturing industries doing that value adding once. Now the former employees of those industries are told they can be retrained to serve drinks for more competitive lower wages - their reward for allowing the ALP/DEM/LIB/NAT/GREENS to run their country !
Worse, the steel companies have a plan to join other industries by relocating to Asia leaving us jobless and bereft of any industrial or defence capability. Maybe they will put a rail line in at our expense to make it easy for Indonesian steel to get to Sydney and Melbourne from somewhere like Darwin.
Where has the country's wealth gone?
The banks operating in Australia are privately (and mainly foreign) owned. They are allowed to create money out of thin air and lend it to "earn" interest to our detriment. They ignore our law which requires fixed terms in lending. Using variable interest and immoral foreclosures the banks assets have risen from $87 bn to $382 bn in five years.
The private banks have taken $295 bn ($90,000 on average per income earning family) from the Australian people in what must be the biggest government sponsored swindle in the history of any nation.
And thanks to ALP/DEM/LIB/NAT/GREENS politicians, the private banks no longer even have a government or people's bank to compete against them. Such is our reward for trusting the ALP/DEM/LIB/NAT/GREENS to run the country !
Foreign Investment
The pollies would have you believe that foreign investment creates jobs for Australians. It doesn't.
Too often multinationals just buy up our industries and close them so they do not compete with their operations in Asia. The ones that do operate an industry do so with machinery, computers, and automation that generates few jobs except for imported technicians. And as soon as they make some profit they slip it out of Australia, increasing our overseas debt, or worse, plough it back into buying up more Australian industry. Does anyone expect us to believe that, one way or another, these foreigners will not take their profits out of Australia whenever it suits them? Are these foreigners so kind that they invest their money here just to help us out?
In 1971 Australia produced 4% of world trade. By 1995 we were producing less than 1% and falling. This because successive governments have sold out and destroyed Australia's manufacturing industry without having any clear idea of what was to replace it. For at least twenty years the ALP/DEM/LIB/NAT/GREENS have had no industry policy worthy of the name.
Industry Policy
We must analyse imports and work out what we need to buy, what we can produce efficiently here, and what in hard times we don't really need at all. For the foreseeable future we will always need such items as household appliances, vehicles, generators, pumps, radio communications, computers, light aircraft, so why not manufacture some of them here?
The old argument that these things can be bought cheaper overseas is largely irrelevant because, when we cease making everything that can be bought cheaper somewhere else, few here will have a job or the money to buy anything.
If we are smart in choosing industries where we have some natural advantage, our products can still be affordable. We should not attempt to make everything; just enough to keep ourselves productively employed. There will still be plenty of things we will want to buy from our trading partners.
The Japanese looked at how much they spent on imported scotch, then developed Suntoro (now as good as any scotch). We could do the same with so many products if only our governments helped instead of hindered.
We could offer a ten year tax break to any wholly Australian owned company generating import replacements. We would soon have no trade deficit.
The Food Industry
The pollies tell us that we can prosper by being the food bowl of Asia, feeding their hungry millions.
The ALP/DEM/LIB/NAT/GREENS allowed the sale of grazing land, the abattoirs, and the feed lots to foreigners. The multinationals closed most abattoirs so now our beef is raised on foreign owned stations, fattened in foreign owned feed lots, slaughtered in foreign owned abattoirs or exported live to provide jobs in overseas slaughter houses. A brilliant strategy.
At the same time the same ALP/DEM/LIB/NAT/GREENS allowed the sale of successful Australian biscuit makers and other food processing companies to foreigners. Do they expect us to believe that, one way or another, these foreigners will not take their profits out of Australia? Will it be the foreigners again who prosper by feeding the hungry millions?
What we need is a way of making foreigners lose interest in Australia so we can gradually take back what politicians have sold to foreign interests. Then Australians will be able to prosper from the real profits of Australia's industries.
Immigration
"Migrants create jobs and bring prosperity" you will hear it said. Not necessarily !
We bring in the wrong migrants. The ALP/DEM/LIB/NAT/GREENS have imported too many who have no trade, can't or won't speak English, won't intermarry, wouldn't defend their own country and won't defend ours.
Multiculturalism is the ALP/DEM/LIB/NAT/GREEN policy which supposedly encourages the various racial groups to exist in cooperation and harmony. A fine ideal, but our tax money has been spent instead on fostering racial differences, keeping ethnic groups apart, maintaining language barriers and buying votes. We can save the nation a lot of expense by recognizing that the whole multi cultural industry is parasitic political indoctrination and just turning off their money tap.
England and Wales are now regarded as the most dangerous, crime infected countries in the western world, and the English rightly believe the crime plague is a direct result of indiscriminate immigration and multiculturalism in the sixties.
The ethnic influx did not create racial harmony and prosperity in England and there is no reason to believe it will here either.
Level Playing Field
Twenty years of this ALP/DEM/LIB/NAT/GREEN stupidity has proven that in the real world, the playing field is not level.
Their level playing field allows other countries to put 180% duty on our goods entering there while they dump here almost tariff free.
Their level playing field doesn't stop Americans muscling in on our wheat markets, undercutting us with subsidies they politely call an "export enhancement program".
Their level playing field doesn't stop clever countries keeping our exports out of their home markets by imposing quotas, certification requirements, inspections, and endless regulatory red tape.
Meanwhile, every boat load of cheap imports arriving here puts another Australian firm out of business and puts another group of Australian workers on the dole at the tax payer's expense.
Truly level is when we put 180% onto their goods because they have put 180% on ours.
Truly level is when we too use creative methods for keeping unwanted imports from our home markets.
Abandon failed policies
If Economic Rationalism, GATT and the Level Playing Field are so good, how come we keep going Backwards? If Economic Nationalism is so bad, how come the Japanese have gone from defeat and exhausted industry in 1945 to Economic World Domination in 1996?
In short, Why do we keep on doing what we are doing?
We cannot get out of our financial mess by borrowing, by selling our assets, or by raising taxes. There are just not enough people to tax or enough assets left to sell . The only way out is to produce goods to replace the excess of imports over exports which creates our trade deficit.
Even people who have never had much education can look at the national statistics and work out that every tariff drop causes more companies to close their doors. When even the multinationals who are too smart to even pay the tax that Australian businesses pay, decide to shift offshore, even the government politicians should get the message. THEY DON'T.
The only way Australia can pull out of its dive towards third world debt and poverty is to produce manufactured goods to replace imports and provide jobs. The interest on our debt will bankrupt us if we keep going the way our governments have been leading. Nothing will change if we do not face the problems that create our debt.
We must make politicians face and reverse the policies they implemented to create the problems, then other problems like youth suicide, crime, excessive taxes to fund welfare will fade away.
In the fifties and sixties we were up with the then technology. We had shoe, textile, clothing, white goods, motor, radio, TV, ship building, railway, farm machinery, aircraft, rocket, nuclear, photographic, meat, flour, fruit processing and just about every other industry needed to survive in war and prosper in peace.
We would still have those industries if the ALP/DEM/LIB/NATS had not deliberately adopted a policy to EXPORT our technology. The theory was we would bring our third world neighbours up to our living standards by giving them our industry and we would get rich supplying them with our raw materials.
It didn't work so the ALP/DEM./LIB/NATS adhered to the same failed policy. Now Australia has the unenviable place of being the deepest in debt per capita nation on the face of this earth. The only people smiling are the faceless gnomes who get the interest and use it to buy up the rest of our assets.
We can save Australia only by forcing the ALP/DEM/LIB/NATS to drop their crazy policies - or replacing them.
We should not allow Brazil or California to dump so many citrus products here that our farmers are forced to bulldoze their orange groves to grow something else. We can not afford to allow Thailand or Fiji to flood our market with the sugar they produce with our pest control, our machinery, our advice and our foreign aid. We must not let our dole recipients get so choosy, so well looked after, that they can shun jobs such as fruit picking so asparagus, vegetable and fruit crops spoil for want of labour. The dole is there for those who cannot get work. It is not for those who won't work.
For our survival and our children we need to look at these policies and do what is successful, not what leads to chaos, unemployment, welfare and crime.
There's more in Australia Needs an Industry Policy!
