Black Tiger Prawn (Penaeus monodon)

 

 

 

Black Tiger Prawn (Penaeus monodon) is also known as Leader prawn. It is the most commonly farmed prawn species in Australia and south-east Asia.

Different farming strategy adopted base on culture conditions:

l        Extensive farming stocks around 20,000 ˇ§PL15ˇ¨ or less per hectare.

l        Semi-intensive farming stocks up to 150,000 ˇ§PL15ˇ¨ per hectare.

l        Intensive farming stocks up to 500,000 ˇ§PL15ˇ¨ per hectare.

 

 

We sell Black Tiger Prawn (Penaeus monodon) postlarvae as "PL15" (15 days old postlarval), which is about 26 days from the spawning depend on temperature. At this stage its length will be greater than 11mm.

For long distance travel, we pack the "PL15" in oxygenated plastic bag with seawater and then box them in foam box with a bag of ice to keep them cool. We normally pack 8,000 -10,000 "PL15" per box depend on traveling time.
