Or more to the point, what am I legally allowed to spray?
There are a limited number of chemicals available for use on olives, as the National Registration Authority have only issued off-label permits to the Australian Olive Association for a limited range of chemicals for a limited length of time.
Use of pesticides without a permit is a serious offence. Details of what is permitted is available on the NRA website at www.nra.gov.au and on the Australian Olive Association website at www.australianolives.com.au
Unless you have completed a farm chemical handling course and have the right chemical, the right equipment and the right permit, then there is very little you can do without either breaking the law or endangering yourself and your trees.
I have prepared a downloadable olive spray program designed for use in the Hunter Valley (click here for a copy in Word format). This is designed as a guide to growers, not the definitive answer to all your spray questions
