Ulla Taylor
has performed at Festivals and events as a pavement artist since 1987.
Her work ranges from community art at festivals
creating original images of celebration... to fine handcrafted promotions
and enhancements for government departments, businesses and corporations,
The street art murals are created
on brick, asphalt, and concrete surfaces..

A highly versatile performance art
form, pavement art is tailored to specific sites, themes and audiences.
The "screeving" or street mural, is crafted in
brilliant, ephemeral Fine Art chalk pastels, and literally creates a new perspective on the grey
street, delighting and amazing pedestrians.
Created over
days, the artwork fades as it is worn away by the elements. Ulla's
fine pavement art is exceptionally photogenic and attracts avid
interest from visual media.

I aim to create original,
site specific artwork .
In
between indulging in the high arts and community work, I've also been
producing corporate promotions and event display artwork. |

The most common question
I am asked while working
is...
Is it hard to leave your art work behind at the mercy of the street once
it is finished?

The art is a performance,
it out-lives itself
in people's memories,
but what I like most about
street art is the way it
can be a delightful surprise
to strangers, a little sacred
site
in the
midst of the grey city
for all to
enjoy...

Fried egg (on a Rainy Day....)
The Weather?.. every body asks!
In 2004, my street art survived
extremes of weather.. From a strangely rained-out January in
Nelson New Zealand, to Joondalup in Western Australia, where the
temperature topped
47
degrees
Celsius
in March .. At Edmonton Streetfest Canada, these extremes
were apparent in the one day... from
hot enough to cook an egg
on the pavement, to tornado hail..
and a bit of late night madness in the
Northern Lights too! (Great pix on that festival web...). This egg
survived the hail after a sound baking in the sun!
The night before I arrived in
Wanaka New Zealand May 05 it snowed on the Southern Alps. The Crown
range was blanched with icy snow half an hour from town. Luckily the weather was perfect
for most of the time at The Festival of Colour.... but Brrrr.. that wind
was icy!

Forgive the
rambling nature of my pavement art gallery..
Over so many
years and themes, events and images, it's becoming all a jumble..

Tamachan the seal visits Kobe Harbourland,
drawn with Bev
Isaac Japan 2003.
In 2003 I toured great
artistic stuff in Europe like Picasso and Gaudi's work in Barcelona, Van Gogh in
Amsterdam... Gaudi's La Sagrada Famiglia being the most singularly
awesome art experience!
I won a prize in Geldern,
Germany's Premium Street Art Competition..
And worked in Kobe Harbourland,
pioneering street art in Japan with Bev Isaac.
