Built in 1855, Victoria House is a historic landmark in heart of the St George district for 52 years with a well regarded and established history as an elite wedding and function venue. John MacLeod built many significant buildings in Sydney, Centenary Hall now known as Sydney Town Hall, The Fort on Bare Island and parts of the Queen Victoria Building. The house was privately owned until it became a Wedding Reception Venue and re-named Victoria House in 1948. The Edward Room was added to the building in the mid 1950's. The original room "Merrioola" Ball Room was purchased at a demolition site from Kings Cross. The site is where the EL Alamein Fountain stands today. The name Edward was cohsen as this room hosted a grand ball in the honour of His Royal Highness Prince Edward I. The Colonial Room was added in the 1960's and features an ornate pressed metal ceiling which was the original billiard room. Victoria House boasts priceless antiques and paintings, including the glorious crystal chandelier once the proud possession of Dame Nellie Melba which was purchased from her Dandenong Ranges property.
