The Notice of Intended Marriage must be lodged at least one month and one day prior to the wedding day, but no more than eighteen months in advance.

The Notice of Intended Marriage form is available from myself or any Births Deaths and Marriages office. Overseas couples can obtain a Notice of Intended Marriage form from the Australian Embassy.

Alternatively, this form can be downloaded from the BDM website (http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/)

When the Notice of Intended Marriage is completed, your signature/s must be witnessed by any one of the authorised persons indicated on the reverse of the form.  Overseas couples should have their signatures witnessed by a Notary Public or an Australian Consular Official.

You may forward certified photocopiesof these documents with the Notice of Intended Marriage. However, the originals must be sighted before the wedding.
If you were born overseas, passports will suffice in lieu of Birth Certificate, but original Death Certificate or divorce papers are a legal requirement.  An Australian Passport can not be accepted.
