I seem to remember the LCD dimensions (1280x768) being auto-detected the first time I tried to install the SuSE 10.1, but I might be mistaken. The second time I tried to install, the installation crashed during the hardware configuration phase. I was able to set the screen dimension and size (158x95 mm) manually with the SaX2 tool (within YaST) after boot-up.
