Win4Lin (the Windows emulator)

Netraverse no longer provides archive files to patch the kernels of SuSE or other `commercial' Linux distributions. The provided archive files are only usable on `vanilla' un-modified kernels. However, on the web-page where you can download the patches to `vanilla' kernels is a link to where you can download patches to the SuSE and other Linux distributions. rpm2cpio Kernel-Win4Lin3-SuSE8.2_2.4.20.01-01.src.rpm | cpio -idmuv '$\star$.patch'

(The filename of the patch RPM might differ from above). You can then use the patch file as instructed on the Netraverse website. Incidentally, when I first updated SuSE I was using version 4 of Win4Lin. I now use version 5. Both versions work very well.

When actually compiling the kernel, I needed to select POSIX ACLs and ReiserFS POSIX Access Control Lists (in the filesystems section). I also needed to turn off the SiS driver in the DRM 4.1 sub-section of the Character Devices section.
