I was unable to use 'SuSE update' from YaST2. For some reason, YaST2 would not recognize the DVD drive as a possible source for system updates. Instead, I booted 8.2 from the CD-ROM.
Unfortunately, I cannot boot from DVDs with my Pioneer DVD-303 (SCSI) and Advansys Ultrawide SCSI controller (3.3G). However, I can boot the SuSE Linux 8.2 CD-ROM with my Ricoh 7060S CD-RW SCSI drive attached to the same SCSI controller. After selecting the language (English) and keyboard (US Keyboard) settings and loading the Advansys SCSI module, I removed the boot CD-ROM and inserted the SuSE Linux DVD into the Pioneer DVD drive. Subsequent installation proceeded from the DVD.
Supplemental note : The problem with the Pioneer DVD-303 may have been because of the Pioneer's firmware. Updated versions of the firmware are available from Pioneer. `Region-free' updated versions of Pioneer's firmware are also available on the Internet.
