I use a LaCie Dual-Layer DVD writer as my external CD-ROM. This DVD writer is supposed to be USB-bus powered. The CV50 does not like trying to power the DVD and the CV50's own hard-drive at the same time, if both drives are active!
Otherwise, the LaCie is happily auto-detected by SuSE 9.1. I have not burnt any DVDs yet.
