Racing is life! Anything that happens before or after, is just waiting! - Steve McQueen, Le Mans (1971)

2005 FOSTER'S AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

This year is the 10th anniversary of the Melbourne Grand Prix (1996-2005) and it's my sixth year as a member of the Australian Grand Prix Medical Team.

I was again assigned to Chase 2 (Pitlane Exit) for all national events and Victor 6 (Pitlane Entry) for Formula 1 only. I am grateful to both Dr Vissenga and Dr Middleton for this prestigious post again and I hope to remain in Chase 2 next year.

This year, Chase 2 is a BMW 545i with M Sports Package and is the chase medical car for the V8 Supercars, Porsche Michelin Carrera Cup, Formula 3, Cleanevent V8 Utes, GP Kart Challenge and BMW Celebrity Challenge. It was great working with Andy (Paramedic) and Rob (Driver) again. We were also joined by Stephen (General Surgeon) from Hobart.

Victor 6 is a BMW 530i sedan and I was based there for Formula 1 only. Victor 6 had a complement of 4 people: Myself, Ben (Anaesthetist), Greg (Paramedic) and Paul (Driver).

2004 FOSTER'S AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

This year I was very fortunate to be assigned to both Chase 2, based at Pitlane exit, and Victor 2, based at Turn 4 (driver's right or lakeside). Chase 2 (BMW 330i sedan) is involved in all national events and chases behind the race cars for 1 complete lap at the start of each race. Victor 2 (BMW 530i sedan) chases all races including Formula 1 from the back of the grid to Turn 4. I had a really enjoyable and satisfying time with Victor 2 and Chase 2 and would like to thank both Dr Vissenga and Dr Middleton for this assignment this year.

2003 FOSTER'S AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

This year I was again assigned to Victor 4, based at Turn 12 (driver's right or lakeside). Glen, who used to race Formula Vs, was the driver and Adrian, a MICA officer, was the paramedic. We had a BMW 530i wagon.

2002 FOSTER'S AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

This year I was assigned to Victor 5, based between Turns 13 and 14 (driver's right or lakeside). Ray, an accountant from Geelong and Formula V driver, was the driver. The 2 paramedics were Jeff and Andy. We had a BMW 530i wagon.

2001 QANTAS' AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

This year I was assigned to Victor 4, based at Turn 12 (driver's right or lakeside). Graeme was my driver again. The other two were from South Australia: Sue, an ICU nurse, and Desmond, a surgical trainee. We had a BMW 525i sedan.

2000 QANTAS' AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX

My first year as a doctor for the Australian Grand Prix. I was assigned to Victor 3, based at Turns 9 and 10 (driver's right or lakeside). Graeme, who drives a Formula V, was our driver. My colleagues were an ICU consultant from Scotland and an ICU nurse from The Alfred Hospital. Our car was a BMW 528i wagon. The extrication team, Echo 2, was also based in there.
