Order Carnivora

This order contains the carnivorous, or flesh-eating, mammals: dogs, raccoons, bears, mink, cats, sea lions, seals. They have large canine teeth, and certain premolars and molars are often modified as shearing teeth. The claws are well developed in the terrestrial species, while the appendages are flippers in marine species. Latin: carno, flesh + vorare, to devour. (Dorit et al, 1991)
