Class Cubozoa

The box jellyfish, found in tropical and subtropical waters, have a large, conspicuous medusoid stage and a small, larval polypoid stage. The bell margin is not scalloped, but turns inward as a shelf-like projection. Some species, such as the sea wasps, are extremely virulent. Greek: kybos, cube + zoon, animal. (Dorit et al, 1991)
