Order Proboscidea

This group contains the elephants and related extinct mammoths and mastodons. They are massive ungulates, with two upper incisors elongated as tusks, and the nose and upper lip modified as a proboscis. Greek: proboskis, trunk. (Dorit et al, 1991)
