Order Procellariiformes

This worldwide group of oceanic birds contains the albatrosses, shearwaters, fulmars, petrels and tropic birds. They have webbed feet, with the fourth toe vestigial. They have long, narrow wings, a hooked beak, and tubular nostrils. Latin: procella, tempest + forma, shape. (Dorit et al, 1991)
