Virus

Viruses are tiny particles composed largely of nucleic acid and protein. They lack many of the features of living cells. Once inside a host cell, the virus takes over the host's metabolic machinery, and the host cell then produces viral proteins and nucleic acids. They cannot reproduce independent of a host cell, so they are not considered living organisms and are not included in the five kingdoms. kingdoms. (Arms et al, 1979)
