| The Windchill
Alaskan Malamute Kennel is situated on a 20 acre property at St Andrews,
a rural area approximately 30 km to the north east of Melbourne,
Australia. Our yards are up to half an acre in size and on quite a
slope, so our dogs keep well exercised and tend to maintain a reasonable
level of fitness all year round. |

We
currently own eight Alaskan
Malamutes, Kiska,
Tarni, Tarni’s "pups", Dugan, Laska
& Tuggy, whelped in 1997, and Laska's pups, Ellie, Maddie and
Bronte. Our Malamutes are or have been involved in harness work
activities and Maddie, Ellie and Bronte are also currently exhibited in
the show ring. |

We try to be
involved in as many mutually enjoyable activities with our Malamutes as
possible, the emphasis being on enjoyment, teamwork and consistent good,
injury-free performance rather than on being out there just to win -
let's face it, our dogs don't care if they win or lose!

We believe that attention
to diet, health care and training, combined with teaching good Malamute
manners, lays the foundation for a kennel of healthy, happy Malamutes
that will achieve their optimal performance over a range of activities.

Windchill
Kennels is not primarily a "breeding" establishment as such,
our main activities being harness work, backpacking and showing. We are
strongly opposed to breeding just to sell puppies as a money making
exercise, and know from experience that good homes for active,
intelligent and independent-minded dogs such as the Alaskan Malamute can
be very hard to come by.

We do, however,
breed from time to time to keep puppies for ourselves for showing and
harness work, and for this reason bred our first litter in 1997, our
second litter in 2001 and most recent litter in 2003.
Our aim is to produce
quality rather than quantity - Malamutes that will not only work but also
conform to the breed standard and are capable of performing well in the
show ring as well as in harness work and backpacking. |
