MAGAZINES

Classic Van and Pick-up (UK)

The December 2002 issue had a very good 6 page feature on the 400e followed by a double page of original black and white photos of 400e's working in the 60's in the January 2003 issue.

MOVIES

The Italian job

Starring Micheal Bloody Caine this movie has a 12 seat personnel carrier used as a getaway vehicle and various vans in the background. Some good interior shots of the bus.

Summer holiday

Starring Cliff Richard and according to numerous people a few Thames. I carefully watched the second half of the movie and didn't see any so they must be in the first half.

They're a wierd mob

Australian movie starring a brand new looking red Thames van belonging to a fruiterer.

Update 10/10/03  This movie has now been released on DVD and looks very sharp for early 1966. The Thames is bright yellow with signwriting covering the side. Appears to be one of the last built and looks like it's just off the showroom floor

The adventures of Barry McEnzie

Various Thames as street furniture and a few driving around. Probably worthwhile checking out the other Barry McEnzie movie(s) also.

Threeplay (?)

Not real sure on the title but it's something to do with 3 girls who leave England for Europe. Almost a carry on movie but has numerous Thames in the first (England) part.

Hatari  Starring John Wayne and set in South Africa in the 1960's. Has a red bus loaded with passengers on a roundabout in the background near the end of the movie where the baby elephants are running through town. I thought there was a few shots of it but only one on the DVD - edited perhaps?

TELEVISION

Heartbeat

Various Thames in various episodes including an armoured car. No idea on episode titles so you'll probably have to watch them all.

Foster and Allen commercial

True! F and A on a boat, on a bicycle for two and sitting on the tray of a nice red Thames truck.Unfortunately the cameras don't follow the true star.

COMPUTER GAMES

The Italian Job

Brilliant game based on the movie where you get to drive the Thames bus, a Thames van and one of the minis in the getaway sequence. You need a fairly good computer for the graphics but it is well worth it.

NUMBERING

Engine numbers

First (hopefully) in a series showing the Thames numbering system related to date and number produced.

This is a Word 97 document which also opens in Wordpad. Select open from current location.
