Welcome to the Thames 400E site for Ford's 10/12 and 15 cwt medium commercials. Any info or contributions that you'd like to see on this site just contact me and I'll be more than happy to include it .

Ford introduced the Thames 400E in October 1957 in van, cab-chassis and chassis- windscreen variations with a bus version following about a year later. Although the bus body appears at first glance to just be a van with windows it was a different body as the side-windows were recessed into the sides and interior panels were fitted. Buses had a forward opening side door with fold down step while the vans had a rearward opening door with no step. A styleside pickup was introduced in 1961 and various mechanical and cosmetic changes were made until the range was superseded by the Transit van in late 1965.

The Thames was popular amongst the specialist body manufacturers leading to a wide variety of body styles including camper vans, milk floats, removal vans, ambulances, builder's trucks, etc. Many vans were modified during the late 70's van movement making good original vehicles hard to find. Final worldwide sales figures for all models was around 180,000.

At about this time the Thames name was replaced with Ford to be consistent with Ford's new cross range naming policy
