Thank you club members for allowing me this opportunity to visit your wonderful country and see your lovely dogs. A special thanks to Jenny Tonkin, Dick Richards and Richard Dyer for the wonderful hospitality before the show. Also warm regards to the Potts family for after the show hospitality.
I am pleased to report that the quality of the Salukis at the show was in the most very high. You can be assured that in my experience and opinion they are as good as any I have seen in the rest of the world.
Almost all exhibits were very sound and in wonderful condition. I was most impressed by the substance and bone in many of the dogs. The blustery cool weather with a threat of rain did cause some dogs to be ill at ease which is understandable.
Minor puppy dog
1 KIABE PANACHE
S. Kiabe Wedgewood
D. Ch Kiabe Kestrel Alyaman
Owned by M Giles
Dark red feathered. Promising future elegance., Nice balance, neck and shoulder with a nice arch in the loin. I prefer a little more underjaw. The puppy shows promise of nice movement, but on this day couldn't settle into an exhibition gait, which is to be expected of such a young fellow.
Junior Dog
1 YASBIQ SAUDY- PHAROS
Owned by C & J Potts
S. Ch Kiabe Windswept
D. Ch Yasbiq Saudy Yasmin
Black fringed fawn feathered. Excellent bone. Very nice head and eye. Excellent balance, very good teeth and feet. Typical suspicion of odd woman in funny clothes. I was very taken with this young dog and feel he shows great promise. He is a very sound dog of excellent type who would make a good hunter.
Intermediate Dog
1 CH YASBIQ SAUDY SAREZIN

S. Samoems Sikandar (imp Ndl)
D. Ch Yasbiq Saudy-Yasmin
Red feathered. Very good bone with a correct topline. Strong masculine head. Very good movement. I prefer a little less rear angulation.
2. KIABE MAHALLI
Owned by Dr M Giles
S. Gr Ch Kiabe Bakshan
D. Ch Kiabe Aziyat
Cream feathered. Not in the best show condition today. A little flat in the loin for me. I'm not bothered by his size, and although some might criticize his front movement, I see no problem with it. Many very successful hunters have the same front movement.
Australian Bred Dog.
1. CH QAT GHAMER
Owned by G & V & Radcliffe
S. Gr Ch Kiabe Baskhan
D. Ch Qat Ermina
Red feathered. Nicely balanced dog in very good condition.Good strong jaw, sound movement. This dog had a grooming job which I find objectionable.
2. CH KIABE WIND SWEPT
Owned by C & J Potts
S. Samoems Sikandar (imp Ndl)
D. Ch Yasbiq Saudy-Yaffi
Red feathered. A very, very good dog who was bothered by the weather and the flapping tents. If more relaxed he would have won the class. Excellent bone and balance with a very good head. Sound movement.
3. NOMADIC TERRACOTTA EMBER
Owned by H Reiger
S. Ch Nomadic Kanjar Sabaj ET
D. Ch Kadin Flying Colours ET
Red feathered. Very good masculine head and bone.
Sound moving, but this dog is too long in the loin for my taste, which hurts
his topline.

1 BAGHDAD EXCELSIOR
Owned by R Chato & P Bockman Chato
S. Ch Baghdad Nemesis
D. Ch Baghada Incognita
Rich dark red feathered. Beautiful desert type. This dog defines moderation. Excellent balance and condition. Unfortunately he had some swelling under his jaw which the handler did his best to minimize. It was forgiven today. Although this dog doesn't have what some would call great reach and drive I find his movement perfectly acceptable.
2 CH KIABE ZILALL
Dr M Giles
S. Ch Kiabe Quariban
D. Ch Qat Classic
Silver Grizzle feathered. I love the type on this dog. It is unfortunate that he wasn't in better show condition today. He has wonderful movement, which is becoming rare in the breed. I would prefer a little better tuckup.
3 CH YASBIQ SAUDY-SHADAD
Owned by A Watt
S. Samoems Sikandar (imp Ndl)
D. Ch Yasbiq Saudy Shai
Red feathered. Good strong dog with a powerful head. Very nice bone. Not quite conditioned into hunting tone and a trifle long for my taste, but still a very nicely balanced dog.
DOG CHALLENGE
Baghdad Excelsior
When it came down to the end this dog fits my "picture" of a hunting type. I prefer a dog that is slightly taller than long with a nice drop in the croup, strong feet and good strong muscled loin.
Reserve Dog CC

I like this young dog very much and feel he has great promise. He has a wonderful head and eye.

1 KIABE PORCELAINE
Owned by M Giles
S. Kiabe Wedgewood
D. Ch Kiabe Kestrel Alyaman
Black and silver grizzle feathered. Solid head, excellent balance, nice head and eye. Very good loin with moderate angulation. Moved well at a show gait for a youngster.
Junior Bitch
1 YASBIQ SAUDY PETRA
Owned by A Watt
S. Ch Kiabe Windswept
D. Ch Yasbiq Saudy- Yasmin
Red feathered . Wonderful head, ear set and eye which gives her terrific expression. Very graceful and feminine, with a very good tuckup. Great balance. This bitch is very elegant, but when you get your hands on her you find strength and good solid bone. She displays wonderful light airy movement and is completely sound. She was in some very tough competition today for the bitch honors, If two other bitches hadn't been there this bitch might have gone all the way.
2 YASBIQ SAUDY-PERSIA
Owned by C & J Potts
S. Ch Kiabe Windswept
D. Ch Yasbiq Saudy Yasmin
Cream feathered. Sizeable. Strong bitch. I prefer a little more arch in the loin. Very strong bone, very sound. Her high tail carriage does not bother me.
Intermediate Bitch
1 Aust Ch Yasbiq Saudy Sakkara
Owned by C & J Potts
S. Samoems Sikandar (imp Ndl)
D. Ch Yasbiq Saudy-Yasmin
Unusual tricolor, in that the tan part is displayed as ticking on the white areas. Feathered. ZOWIE!!!! From the moment she entered the ring I could hardly take my eyes off this bitch. She is superb. Defines elegance with power. Moderate angulation, proper neck and shoulder, with a terrific pelvis and muscling. A head to die for. She entered the ring looking for quarry. She is the bitch counterpart to my Best of Breed in Lexington. Wonderful sound movement. Power with grace.
2 CH WAHDAI EL JIWAN
Owned B & J King
S. Elarabie Leander

Cream feathered. Lovely type With a nice head, and very good underline and tuckup. I'm not keen on the pink nose and she is overangulated in the rear for my taste.
3 CH PADTHEWAY SERAPHIM

S. Kamseh Aladdin
D. Ch Ibnzaad Amira Min Wakah
Some would say this bitch has extrememe elegance, and that is part of the problem for me. She has a beautiful underline, head and expression, but I find her far too angulated in the rear which affects her movement. I find this type of structure to be a detriment in a hunting breed which demands great speed and stamina. Since the hindquarters are the source of power and drive in the Saluki I must find serious fault with this type of anatomy and movement at the trot.
Australian Bred Bitch

Cream feathered. Beautiful balance. Good bone with a very nice head and excellent pigment. Smooth movement, very sound. I would prefer a tighter flank.

Black and silver smooth. Finally!!! Beautiful type.
She is somewhat refined for me, but she has excellent balance, a very nice
head and a very good croup. I would prefer stronger feet. Unfortunately
she is losing her underline and tuckup today, but I hope that bodes well
for her future as a mother.

Cream Smooth. Aaaahhhhhhh!!!! Even at her age she
is wonderful. She has superb desert type nd describes the standard to me.
Terrific head and expression. Wonderful balance and moderation. She looks
as if she could hunt today. This is the type of Saluki I dream of. I wish
I could have seen her in her absolute prime, although she still looks fantastic.
She is absolutely sound and carries herself with solid confidence. Her owner
is blessed by Allah.

quality. Moderate with good bone and nice balance. I trifle tucked in at
the elbow. Very nice color.

Irish marked red feathered. Solid bitch, showing a
little age. Losing some bottom line, but sound with very good type.
Bitch CC
Yasbiq Saudy Sakkara C & J Potts
What a contest!!! It was always between the cream smooth and the powerful challenge of the young black bitch. Everyone knows that I am smitten with the smooth variety. However when I judge in the ring, I have a duty to the breed to forget about variety and judge the dogs on that day. I agonized over these two wonderful dogs, but in the end, youth won out. The bitch CC went to the intermediate bitch with the reserve going to the priceless smooth veteran.
BOB and BEST IN SHOW. Ch Yasbiq Saudy Sakkara bred/ owned by C & J Potts
Once the smooth bitch was taken down by the young hellion, there was no stopping her. Although the dog CC is very nice I felt he was no challenge to either the bitch CC or Res. CC.

BOS to the dog CC. BAGHDAD EXCELSIOR
In closing I would like to make a few comments about the overall entry. I worry that in the pursuit of dog show wins under "show" judges the breed will lose correct hunting type. Sloping toplines and flat croups have no place in Salukis. Extreme rear angulation can lead to serious medical problems. The Saluki must have a correct underline. I found my entry to bear many virtues, however I do believe that breeders in this area should work on getting a better underline on their strong sound dogs. I was pleased to find good strong feet on almost all the entries. Overall bites and underjaw were excellent. I found some dogs to carry a lot more body coat than I see in my homeland, but winter is just now ending in this area. I feel that in some cases the feathering is moving beyond what is described in the standard, and this worries me. It seems that in "show" dogs, less is never more. Only more and more and more is desired which pushes the breed into a direction it should not travel. Remember that moderation in the Saluki is the goal, not extremism.
