About Us

We were born and raised in Gawler, adjacent to the well known Barossa Valley wine producing district and the earliest settled town in South Australia. Mum's family settled in the area in 1849 and were noted farmers and horse dealers. Our family have shown and bred Arabian horses for 2 generations. It was in the late 1960's, that we became interested in Salukis. This seemed to be a natural progression from the involvement with the Arabian Horse. In those days, Salukis were quite rare and it was 1971 before we were able to acquire our first Saluki, a fawn dog. He was to become the first male in South Australia.

Later, whilst still schoolgirls, we imported a bitch from the UK to become the foundation breeding stock for the YASBIQ Salukis. Since then the Yasbiq Salukis have become one of the most successful Saluki kennels in Australia, regularly accounting for wins at the major 'Royal' shows and specialties across the country. Many breeders have founded their show and breeding stock on a YASBIQ puppy. But quality, not quantity has always been our philosophy and so we only plan to have a litter once every 18mth to 2 years.

Over the last 10 years YASBIQ salukis have accounted for Challenge or Reserve Challenge Dog or Bitch at the Victorian Saluki Club Championship show (the largest entries in Australia) on 9 occasions.

Today there are 10 salukis living between both our homes and the family farm. On the farm the dogs are able to enjoy ample free exercise with all the comforts of home, whilst the city homes are ideal to socialise young show stock. Yes, the Arabian horses are still to be found and now we also have Riding Ponies.

Both of us are regularly invited to judge at horse shows throughout Australia, whilst Carolyn also judges Hounds. We travel the world each year and try to see as many salukis in other countries as we can. Maybe we will visit you one day. Visitors to the farm are always welcome.

Carolyn judged the Saluki Club of Greater San Francisco Specialty in October 2001. Here are some photos of a few of her winners.
