Family Tree

Many would see the establishment of a family tree as a dream better not brought to fruition;

long concealed and thought to have healed family wounds again bleeding.

Motive of greed sometimes cause us to proceed where honest sentiment is unwilling;

oft -told stories of past financial glories and money in Chancery deceiving.

The fortune evades but curiosity persuades the pursurer to continue his digging from the cemetery mound newly abound settlers on the Scottish Lassie sailing.

Facts from the past prove to contrast with legends perpetuated by grandparents;

from labourers obscure not blue bloods pure the family line originating.

Thoughts of legacy pall but the chance to recall the poorest of ancestors is rewarding;

the spirits evoked and the imaging's provoked the richest heritage creating.

Poem by Lorraine Beverley Harris, Adelaide, 1980.
